I have a static IP from my ISP which if I understand right is taken by the adsl/router. My pc's have IP's assigned by DHCP. I would like one of my PC's to host a website, but when I connect on my static IP from any other machine on the web I get nothing. I believe there must be a setting in the router config that allows the router to forward the request from another pc on the www to access the pc I have hosting the website, but that bit I can't work out. Any help would be most appreciated as the manual that came with the device is not at all informative.

The first issue is the built-in firewall in the router. It would be blocking requests into your server if enabled. You must get around this blocking.

There are several ways to do this. If your Web server only uses several ports, you can setup your router to forward those ports to the server IP address. The server has to be set as a static IP address, not DCHP assigned, but still in the local network address range. Most routers support this option.

Another option on some routers is the DMZ Host option. Again, a local statically assigned IP address in the server is set as the DMZ host in the router and is exposed to the Internet. This option often has problems, but can be made to work.
