Well, here we go. I am trying to develop a VPN connection between a remote computer and myself.

I have tried to set up my machine (WinXP Pro) to be the VPN server using all the tools and wizards I could find. I've included the remote machine as a client in my "users" tab and entered his windows password in the password area.

I am behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router but have forwarded ports 1723, 50, 51 and 500 to the IP of the VPN server machine. I've also ensured that PPTP and IPSec pass throughs are enabled.

The remote machine has been set up as a client, using his windows logon name and password to dial the connection. The client is dialing the WAN IP address of my router.

The connection is getting as far as "Verifing user name and password" but hangs there for about 30 seconds and then fails with an error message #721, stating that the host did not reply or did not answer.

I'm not sure what I'm missing or why I can't complete this connection.

I would appreciate any help in solving this problem.

Thank you.

Round, round we go!!
