You need to go to the manufactures web site and see if they have any drivers for Windows 98. If they don't supply drivers for Windows 98, and a lot don't these days, then you are going to be out of luck.

Possible to use a VM with usb support and use a linux with ndiswrapper. A long way around an issue and most likely slow.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

USB Wireless Adapters require in general W98 Second Edition or later, if the manufacturer has bothered to write drivers.

PCMCIA Cards are either 16bit or 32bit Cardbus, both are available with W98 drivers, you need to shop around.

By the way does your laptop even support Cardbus PCMCIA ? Stating just Compaq and W98 are not helpful.......

Another way is to use a wireless adapter by a regular wired ethernet connection. (ie. a game adapter.)

Do some research on the WiFi adapter you have and what you want to find out is which WiFi chipset you have. Companies that produce WiFi chipsets like Broadcom, Marvell, and others produce generic drivers there just may be a driver for Windows 98.
