Hi,

I am having Intex 8 Port switch. It has got one extra port marked as 'Uplink' . My all the 8 Ports are occupied and I want to add 9th computer to Network. Can I use Uplink Port to connect the Ninth Computer. I have tried to use Normal Cable but it is showing as not connected.
If I use crossover cable to connect 9th computer ?

Ravi.

They call it a 8 port switch for a reason. You can't use a trunking port as a regular port usually but feel free to try with the xover.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

It won't work. A crossover won't be of any use in this case since crossover cables are used only when connecting like interfaces. For example, switch to switch, NIC to NIC (two PC's).

A switch to PC connection requires a regular straight through cable which won't work with an uplink port which requires a crossover.

Some older hubs or switches have a button by the uplink port that enables you to toggle it between uplink and regular network port. Many newer switches are designed to auto-detect whether you are using the port to connect to another switch (uplink) or to connect to another client (regular).

Did you look at the manual? I would guess it will explain if that is possible. Many switchs also have the uplink and the last port combined where you can ONLY use one (8 devices OR 1 Uplink & 7 devices)
