In a couple of days I get a Linksys router, and I already have a D-Link router laying around. The reason for the switch is that the signals from the D-Link router isn't strong enough, so they can't reach all the way into the basement.. I hope that the Linksys (with modified firmware) will manage to get the signals all the way, but if it doesn't, I think I have come up with a solution but I want to hear what you think of it first...

I have a D-Link DWL-G810 as well, it's sort of an "adapter" from wireless to cable. So I thought (Bear with me ):

Linksys router as DHCP server G810 LAN port on D-Link router with disabled DHCP Signal in the basement

Explanation:

#1: The Linksys router broadcast a wireless network (n1)
#2: The G810 picks up the signal and broadcasts it through cable into a LAN port on the D-Link router.
#3: The D-Link router works only as a switch since DHCP is disabled, so it too broadcasts a new wirless network (n2) which will be a repetition of n1. All computers which connects to n2 then get their IP through the D-Link, which again gets it through n1 (The Linksys)
#4: n2 is therefore a expansion of n1 and all the computers on n1 and n2 is on the same network, or...?

What do you think?
Don't hesitate to ask questions if there's something you don't understand...

BTW: How's my english?

Your english is excellent.

Unfortunately these home routers can't do what you desire. They can't talk router to router wirelessly. That requires a wireless bridge which is designed to handle the two way traffic.

You'd probably need a PC to act as a bridge between the D-Link and the G810.
