I am trying to use the windows "Remote desktop" feature to connect to my PC from a distant one. I enabled the feature on my PC.
However I can't seem to even get a ping from another computer to my PC so you see my problem...I am not part of a local network and i connect directly to my cable modem - so I dont see why it won't work.
this is my configuration using ipconfig:
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 2:Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 172.27.134.38
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.240.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 172.27.128.1PPP adapter 012 L2TP:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 84.95.101.36
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 84.95.101.36
tried pinging both 84.95.101.36 and 172.27.134.38.
can anyone help me?

are u using a router in between ? 3389 is the default port for remote desktop. Try using port forwarding at the router side. Also have you added the remote desktop user ?

I do not use a router on either side.
how do I add a remote user, he is not part of my domain. But at the moment this is not the problem. I cannot ping to my PC from another remote PC.

How about a firewall? Is there one running on the PC you're trying to connect to, or between the PC and the internet? If so, you have to forward port 3389 on the firewall to the IP address of the PC you wish to connect to.
Just FYI, if you don't have a firewall running between your PC (or PC's) and the internet, you're asking for major trouble and problems.

you wont be able to PING those IPs across the net as the first is a private IP address and the second looks like it is the local router address. i am confused slightly by your IP mask.
to config RDC, you will need to establish your PCs public IP address. any firewalls will need setting to forward port 3389 accordingly. you may want to google setting up VPNs and Remote Desktop as this should give you more info about port forwarding for internet connectivity.
