I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 WAP which currently connects directly to my 600 series Zyxel DSL router/bridge. I have two static IPs and two computers on my network. I would really like to keep the hardware setup as is, but I want to give my desktop one of the static IPs (The WAP has the second IP by the way) and assign a dynamic to my laptop via the WAP.
The problem is, if I enable DHCP on the WAP, the static IP config won't take on the desktop (I guess for obvious reasons). Anyway, I'm a little new to the wireless thing in general, but is there a way to keep both machines connected directly to the WAP and use my static IP with the desktop while serving a dynamic IP to the laptop? I really only want to break out the hub as a last resort kind of thing. Thanks for any help.

Both machines are p4 equivalents with half a gig of memory, formatted NTFS and running either XP Pro (desktop) or home (laptop).

I have a very similar setup with an SMC wireless router:

Desktop: Static IP of 192.168.0.100 (and the gateway is set to the router's IP)

Laptop: Dynamic ("IP obtained automatically")

Router: DHCP enabled--and it lets my specify an IP address "pool": I have it set to offier IPs between 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20

As long as you can ensure the dynamic IPs won't conflict with the static IP, you should be okay.

Post back if you need more info/help

Excellente! Thank you very much. I used the IP that my ISP had given me, and switched the gateway to the address of the router, and things are now very desirable. Thanks again!
