User's desktop reverting to default profile

October 9, 2009 at 09:17:42
Specs: Windows 2000
Single Win2K domain 100 nodes (workstations)

Random users, at times, log in to the domain from their workstation and are presented with the default user profile desktop instead of their current domain desktop profile that they are used to using and seeing.

I know how to fix this at the workstation level via the registry, but I would like to figure out the root cause of the issue so I can fix it for good.

FYI - Our domain controller is also a DNS server pointed to itself for resolution. passes all dcdiag tests just fine.

Not using roaming profiles.

Is there anyone out there with a fix for this?

Nope, I have never had this problem but then again I am using 2003 Server.

The only time I ever see this is when the user is messing around with the domain selector on their login screen. Even if the connection was lost (Virtual Office Employees) they still logged into their domain profile just fine.

Which service pack are you on for your Windows 2K?
Which OS and Service pack are you using on the workstations?
