I am currently using a Linksys wireless broadband router w/ a 4-port Ethernet Switch (BEF11S4) to network two computers and a laptop with a wireless adapter(WPC11) in my house. The router is located in the attic with my desktop and the second computer is located on the second floor. The signal strength is good to the second floor but it gets a little weak on the first floor where I want to use the laptop and sometimes the signal drops.
I was wondering if I get a Linksys WAP11( I actually have one lying around, this one is version 1.1 with a USB configuration port and Ethernet port in the back but has no reset switch) and set it up as a repeater...if the signal strength would be stronger?
Also how would I hook up the WAP11...with a Cat5 cable or could it be done wireless? If it could be done wireless..how would I go about doing so.
No, it will work if you have a bridge with repeater mode. Second option is to use back-to-back ~[bridge]-[AP]~ in the middle using different channels. The second option is the more expensive and more efficient. However, both solutions will cause a lot of latency. I would recommend to increase your output and/or use better WNIC such as Cisco one.
I just got WAP11 (at V2.05) and BEF11S4 (at V1.50.14). I cannot get these to work together. Same problem; needed distant signal without wires between. In my case, though some concrete walls. Next step to put the problem to LinkSys..
