Does anybody know if there is a way to use an SMC7004VBR router as a switch that I could then hook it up to a DLINK DI-624 router so that computers hooked up to either router will be on the same network?

Yes you can. Router is a switch with routing capability.

So how do I do it. If I just connect the WAN port to a LAN port on the other router with a standard ethernet cable, it works and everyone gets internet access, but they can not see eachother on the network. What I need is to get computers plugged in to both routers to be on the same network.

I am also interested in knowing the answer. I am intending to buy a netgear router and I want to use it as a switch (so all PCs are in the same network, I already have a Linksys router).
Any asnwers?
Cheers...

If you haven't already bought it, why not just buy a switch instead? It's cheaper and you don't have to do all of this work.

You use a router as a switch by turning off dhcp. You connect a crossover cable from one port on the to-be-used-as-switch router to one of the routers switched ports. This means you go from 4 possible ports to 6 possible ports [3 available on each]. Not much gain for such an expensive device when compared to using a real switch. You can't use the wan port to connect.

Thanks, I already was told to do that on another forum and it does work. About the price issue... I already owned the second router so $0 is less than whatever a switch costs.
