This is really annoying me, each month my mother gets the bill for the cable connexion, and each time it exceeded the upload limit, and each time I have to pay the exceed since I'm the one who's using the net more than everyone else.

Here's what I got this month:

Download Amount:
3165 MB
Amount allowed:
15360 MB
Exceed:
0 MB

Upload amount:
6940 freaking MB
Amount allowed:
5120 MB
Ecxeed:
1820 MB
Amount to pay:
$14,12!!!

If you check correctly you'll see that I have twice as much upload than download MBs. I own my website and make some uploads, but for each uploads I load the whole website 4-5 times, so basically I should have much more download amount than upload. Also I chat, but I don't send many files, most of the time I just enter text. I am really sure I didn't uploaded 7 GB of informations, and seriously, I am really p**sed. This is happening since 5 months. Grr.... Anyway I need your help, what's your opinion? What program that's uploading stuff while connected? Or is my internet company fooling me?

It might help to know that my actual connection is: Videotron Normal High Speed Cable. Videotron is the company.

Please, an unemployed 14 years old boy needs an expert's help.

If people are visiting your website, you're uploading to them.

>.> Nope, cause I'm not my own server, I use a web host, so they upload from this webhost's server.

Have you checked your system for Spyware_AD-ware, Virus, Worms and Trojans that could be sending out a lot of data? Do you have a firewall on your system that could catch such activity?

Start with a full up to date virus scan. Make sure you update it with the latest reference files and then scan your whole system. If you do not have a good one installed, you need one, then try a free online virus scan like HouseCall_AV. Fix any/all problems it finds.

Then download and install AD-Aware_v6, Check for Updates first and then run it and select the Custom mode and enable all tests. Any item that it finds should be removed from your system.

Also if there is more than one system sharing the Internet connection, do not assume it is your system doing all the sending. It could be one of the other systems, or even the router. If you have a router, make sure it has been updated with the latest firmware from the router manufactures web site.

You will need to have the above tests done on all systems to find out if they are the one with a Virus, Worm or Trojan sending out things.

If you do not find a problem, then get a program that can check your actual network activity. I assume you are using an Ethernet connection, not a USB or Dial-UP.
If using an Ethernet connection, get the free program Karen's LAN Monitor from Karenware.com. Install it and set it up on your system. Select you network card and the Traffic tab and it will show you the Outgoing and Incoming packets and byte count. You can use it to look at the Dial-Up interface (PPP defaut). Let it run and it will show you just how much is being received and sent. This will only show your system, not other activity from any other systems on your network. But it will allow you to track the actual usage and find out what is going on.

Spend some time reading these forum and other peoples problems and learn.

Best thing to do would be to throw in a firewall .. Block the following ports because these would send un-needed traffic out to the internet.

135, 137, 139, 445, 593, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1080, 1434, 27347

Also may want to look into a service provider that charges a flat monthly fee vs per mb. :)
