At the moment I'm using the modem my cable company sent over to be installed with my line. It's a Motorola SB4200. I was looking online, and noticed it was about 4 years old. My aunt who lives a few cities over has a Motorola SBG900 that seems to have come out a year later than mine. I supports wireless and thought I would get it since mine doesn't right now, and my current router is on the brink. I've used my notebook with her modem while I was over there and it seemed good. Does anyone else use this modem, and have you have any troubles? And if I were to get this one in question, would I need to inform my ISP before hand?

There's a difference between a modem and a router. I didn't check (and sorry, I couldn't be bothered) but it sounds like your aunt may have a combination unit like I have. That is, a modem/router/wireless access point.
If It were me, I'd buy a new wireless SOHO router and replace your old one. I see no advantage to upgrading your modem (ie: it won't give you more bandwidth than you already have, or better performance)
