Unreliable wireless connection

Hewlett-packard Pavilion dm4-1060us note...

Specs: Windows 7
My new Netbook which is an HP pavilion dm1 1101sa (with a Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN) is extremely unreliable when
connecting to wireless networks. It is fine if I'm
really close to the router but pretty useless if
more than a room away. Also when I'm out
and about I can hardly - if ever - connect to
anything, yet others around me have no
problem! My old Sony Vaio used to connect
beautifully to all the same locations. I'm at a
loss as to what to do :(
Help appreciated.

Get an external WiFi USB adapter with power boost.

Go to HP website and try to locate/download any newer wireless adapter driver and update the existing one.

Also you could try to play with the wireless advanced features on wireless adapter driver properties window, see whether it helps.
