We have a small network with 8 devices connected to it
Unix
====
3 sun machines running solaris
10/100 ethernet cardspc's
====
3 pc's 1 running win2000pro others win98
mixture of ethernet cards some 10/100
some 10mbits.Hub
===
cheap 10/100 dual speed/sensing hubothers
======
2 ISdN routersThe problem we have is that until recently we could communicate using ftp from the pc's to the unix machines. But now the connections just times out. If i ping sun1 from sun2 i get "sun1 is alive" if i ping pc1 from sun2 the ping times out. When i try the same thing from a pc i get the same result the pc's can see each other but not the unix machines.
I have changed nothing on the network so don't see what the problem could be.
i checked the ip addresses on each machine all seem ok and the netmask is correct.
Ip range 193.43.64.160 -190
subnnet 255.255.255.224
I have also changed the nic card settings on my win2000pro machine to see if changing the link speed/duplex will help. still no results.Any body got any ideas,tips.
Thnx
PAul

Try to switch the hub port of one of the problematic machine.like you said...cheap 10/100...hub,this could be the problem.i had port turning bad on high quality Hubs and switches too,so check that out.
Cheers!
Garreth.

This may sound dumb but first thing I would ask you what changed? Since work before what did someone installed, configured or uninstalled to make stop worked.. and of course change it back to orginal
