This is a problem that has puzzled me for the last few days to no avail. I have several computers running on a wireless LAN using a Linksys Wireless Cable/DSL router. I was gone for a week and came back with all of my "wired" connections no longer working. The router allows for 4 wired connections to hook into its built-in hub. All of the computers hooked to the router via wireless NIC's work just fine. The two computers that were wired into the hub quit. Once is operating XPHome and the other is Win2000. When reviewing the network profiles on each computer both indicate that a "cable has been unplugged." I have verified that all of the cables are working properly. Also, I have replaced the router and it still indicates that there are no links when wired directly into the router. I have even tried a different brand of router. It is if the NIC cards just quit working. Furthermore, I have uninstalled the NICS and reinstalled them with Windows indicating that they are working properly.
It is almost as if someone broke through the firewall and did something to make the NIC cards quit working, but I doubt this to be the case.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this or have any suggestions on how to fix it.
I have gone back and installed wireless NIC cards in both machines. When I did this, both of these wireless NICs work just fine.
Thanks and extremely puzzled.
Kevin

I have a similar problem with XP (after upgrading from 2K) in that after a certain amount of time, the XP machine (which is running ICS) stops responding and all client machines can no longer reach, nor get a new DCHP supplied address. After a reboot it typically works again!
The network is wireless (802.11b) using the Actiontec cards and worked flawlessly under 2k. Any ideas?
Mark
