Hi
I'm have the same problem appeared in the last few days. I have to manually configure to 192.168.1.102 plus the rest to work, but if I restore to set obtain ip automatically, get 169.254.255.255 -> broken. Using WindowsXP. Not changed any settings I know of until today trying to fix problem. Norton Security update two days ago. So uninstalled. No luck so put back on. Checked ip stack corruption, ok. Stumped!? I have another laptop with the same leads connected to the same Linksys gateway/router with auto ip address. Works fine everytime. VAIO just will not connect automatically. Both using leads. Might have automatic WinXP updates turned on since its a new laptop. So could be what DaveW mentioned. So looking for a solution. Any advice please. Thanks.

On a guess I am thinking that you have your router set to only supply a specific number of IP leases. In this case you may just need to change it to supply a couple more.
But it is a guess on my part, Bryan

I don't see any mention of a router. If you are hooking up to the dsl/cable modem directly and its keyed to the vaio's mac address no other machine can get on.
Solution is buy a wireless router. configure the wan port to mimic the vaio's mac address.
