Comment: Really need your collective wisdom, please !! I've been completely unable to obtain a dynamic IP address for the past 60 days. I've verified that the "obtain addy automatically" boxes ARE checked in IP settings. Have also done the unplug cable modem and wait many, many times. My IP address continues to renew !! I'm just on a high speed connection and am leasing my cable modem from my ISP (Comcast). I've even replaced the modem twice now ... still the same IP address for at least 60 days. Comcast reps change their story as to why every time I've called ... most recent is to get a new network adaptor. (???) I sure don't understand since I used to get a new IP address more frequently than 60 days. Please let me know if you need any additional information. I'm rather a klutz about configurations. THANK YOU !!

Reply: (edit)Do you have a SOHO router? Maybe a friend that has one that would be willing to bring it over if not? They're setup (normally) to dish out IP's dynamically like that. Get ahold of one, plug your PC into it. Make sure it's set to give out IP's via DHCP and see what happens. If you get an IP, call Comcast back, ask to speak to somebody that actually knows something about the technology and then gently explain to them that you have NO problems getting an IP via DHCP from a SOHO router. If it doesn't work, then your NIC may very well be bad.
