unable to connect

D-link / Dir615

Specs: Windows vista
Hi, I have a problem with my wireless connection. I just bought a new laptop and a router (DIR615), followed the instruction on how to install. My desktop's OS is XP Pro and my laptop is Vista. I am unable to connect in the internet with my laptop eventhough it says wireless connection available and I also have a low connectivity (signal is on and off). I've tried unplugging the modem and the router; signing laptop static ip address but still unable to connect. What will I do? Do I need a wirelss USB adapter?

So I assume, the desktop is connected to the router by wire.

To get some informations at first:
Have you configure the router from the wired connected desktop?

Are you using special wireless tool from the manufacturer or did you use windows wireless connection tool?

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

yes the desktop is connected to the wired router and the router is configured in the desktop.
I don't understand your question about using special wireless tool...when I bought the router it came with the cd installer and I followed the instructions, that's just what I did. There were failures in connecting to wireless connection in the laptop but I called the tech support and followed also the recorded voice instruction then I get wireless connection but not the internet.

When you go into the routers setup and then to the Device Info, you'll see a status page of your internet connection.
Is there listed a ip address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS.

Waht I want to know is, whether the router can establish the connection to your internet provider.
If these settings are all 0.0.0.0, the router can't establish the connection and we will work on that.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!

You have to open your browser and type in:
http://192.168.0.1
Then you have to enter user name and password.
After that, you are in the web configuration tool of the router.

If you know someone, how can configure the WLAN for you in the router as well as on your laptop, this is the easiest way.
It's described in the routers manual, but you have to understand the meaning of all of that, to get it to work.

Please send a reply, if you solved the problem !!!
