I have a NT 4 network with 8 BDC's and of course one PDC. I just upgraded one of my servers to 2k and would like to do the same with the rest. Any ideas or suggestions that I should keep in mind before I get started? What about demoting the 2k machine to a BDC before upgrading the others, how can I do this? Any help would be appreciated.

W2K cant be run as a BDC or PDC W2K runs as a DC. After you upgrade a PDC it is still recognized by any win NT BDC's as the domain master and can synchronize with live BDC'srunning until all servers are upgraded(except for the last)because this gives you a backup alternative if there is a problem. The book on W2K server continues with a suggestion to remove one BDC and store it in a safe place until you feel assured the upgrade process is fully successful. Then it suggests after all have been upgraded to convert to native mode which reflects that there are no longer ant NT PDC',BDCs on the network.
