I have a network set up as shown in the hopefully attached diagram. I am on PC 3, and the router is set up to allow file sharing through it. Thusly, all three PCs can share files. Also, PC 2 shares its internet connection with PC 1. I am on PC 3, and want to make windows not use internet connection two. I find that when I am have both network connections established (PC 3 has two NICs) windows typically uses only internet connection one and leaves net connection 2 completely unused. Is there a way to make windows use net connection 2, while still allowing file transfer to the rest of the network? At the moment I am disabling the NIC with the network connection when online so as to force it to use net connection 2.

I have a similar problem posted in the windows 2000 forum. E-mail me if you get this figured out and I will do the same for you.

your problem may be the gateway of last resort. check your routing table by opening a dos box (start>run>cmd.exe) and type 'route print'. the gateway of last resort is where it sends ip packets it doesn't know a destination for. mine reads - 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 172.21.3.4 1. you need to point this route to your second NIC. so if I wanted to change my default gateway to 172.21.3.3 I would type - route delete 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 172.21.3.4 and then - route add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 172.21.3.3 metric 1.
hope this helps
