TV Access to AVI files on network?

Just installed a multimedia server on our home network and would like to know if any options exist (hardware or otherwise) to link the home TV's to the lan to play the AVI files stored on the server.
I've tried every combination of search terms I could imagine and didn't find this application.
Was hoping to find a box that would connect to the rear inputs that would connect to the lan, then the watcher can choose the avi file from the directory and then watch it.
