Turn on Server connected directly to Internet

July 19, 2009 at 07:57:18
Specs: Windows XP
My server crashed and I have no way of physically resetting it since I am already traveling. please tell me how to reboot the server remotely. I am pretty sure that since connecting a computer directly to the internet is unsecure, I can at least control the physical power of it.

I don't have a MAC Address and the server is a VMX Server or something.

Sounds more than a little fishy to me.

"server is a VMX Server or something?"

Jennifer,

I don't understand what you mean, but is there any way of me rebooting my server since my server crashed and is connected directly to the internet? I mean I only have the Internet IP, nothing else, no MAC Address, Nothing. Should I use Magic Packet or something? Please Let Me Know.

and others.

Assumes a lot too.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

jefro,

Thank you for the link, however, it requires a MAC address and I don't have a MAC Address. How do I wake up the computer just by specifying the IP Address or is there a way to find out the IP Address from remote?
