trying to connect to home pc via iphone

January 31, 2011 at 19:37:04
Specs: Windows Vista
I am attempting to connect to my home pc via iphone. I have a time warner roadrunner cable modem and d-link router. I have set my computer to a static ip address, and adjusted the port settings on my router. Also adjusted my firewall to let the proper port through. Got the router's IP address from an internet site, and tried to connect... with no luck. What could I be doing wrong?

I have no experience with iphones.........but have to ask, what application are you using to connect with?

Typically, in a Windows computer to Windows computer connection like this, you use RDC (Remote Desktop Connection). You would:

1) enable remote desktop access on the target PC
2) find out the LAN IP of the target PC
3) create a port forward in your router to send port 3389 (RDC) to the LAN IP of the target computer
4) find out the WAN (external) IP of your home connection
5) Connect to the WAN IP of your home network from the remote computer using RDC

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.
