I am trying to transfer a large number of music files from one computer another. The are to many files to just put them on a disk. I was wondering if I could connect the computers directly like with a usb cable or somthing. Any thoughts will be helpfull.

No I don't believe you can just connect by USB cable. You need network cards in each PC and connect with RJ45 crossover cable.
How many files is too many? Work out how many GBs of data. Cost per CD to burn to disk? versus cost of a networking kit that includes NICs and cable?
Other option is to physically take the harddrive with the data on it. connect it in the other PC as a slave drive and copy/transfer the files. Then return the drive to it's original system. Pay attention to master/slave jumper settings.
I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.
