Ok i have 2 pcs connected running xp with static ips. They can both ping each other. But they cannot see each other thru "view workgroup computers". Also oddly Computer1 does not even show itself thru "view workgroup computers" Trying to access shares thru //computer1 gives me a "..may not have permission.. message, and im logged on at computer1!. Workgroup names are identical. Firewall is off for testing. Logged on as Administrator.

Try \\IP_address in the run box. not // front slashes. If you still don't have permissions then the shares aren't done right. Make sure that simple file sharing is enabled.

hi don yes sorry \\computer1 shows the shares but when i try to click on them gives me the "..may not have permission..". Where else can i check that simple file sharing is enabled, strangely this option is missing under folder options-view. I have tried reinstalling file and print sharing in network propreties, and reshared some folders. I think we are on the right track :)
