I just bought a 20gb ide Seagate Hornet travan tape drive and I've been doing some test backups and restores from it. My question is this. I backed up about 1.5gb to tape, then took the tape out, put in back in and tried to do a restore. The problem is that when I reinsert the tape, it takes FOREVER for the thing to prepare itself, a half hour to 40 minutes before the directory tree appears in ntbackup and I'm finally able to start the restore. Is this normal for a travan tape drive to be this slow preparing itself for a restore operation?
