I want to use my Linksys G54 router to transfer files from one WinXP computer to another. I disabled both the "hard wired router computer" and one other wirelessly connected computer. Unfortunately, I forgot to disable the wireless network on the computer that I've moved next to the router that will receive the transfer. I hope this isn't a problem (if it is, do I need to go back to the original location with the monitor and disable it?). I also unplugged the Internet connection from the router.
Yet I'm not seeing the "moved" computer in my other computer's monitor. Any ideas? Thanks.

When transferring files one does not need to actaully and physically move the files. It is all done electronically through the routers.
(Haven't had my coffee yet and don't fully comprehend what you are trying to do by 'moving' the computers away from the monitors??? Can you explain your goal in different words?)

I have 165 GB of files I want to transfer from my old computer to my new one. I tried doing it wirelessly but it was very slow and there were lots of errors. I heard I could use my Linksys 54G router and cable the new computer to the router (the other computer, my old one with the original files, is already hard wired to the router). Does that make sense now? Unfortunately, I'm not seeing the new computer via this method so I can transfer the files. Any ideas?

The fastest speed I got for file transfer is by connecting a Crossover Ethernet cable directly between 2 computers. This crossover technique avoids going through the router and avoids security problems. The cable costs only $5 at Fry's.
