Specs: Windows XP
I purchased a Toshiba NB205 over a year ago. It worked just fine for months and then all of a sudden one night as I was surfing the web, my internet connection has gone haywire and been sketchy ever since. The netbook will either refuse to connect to my wireless network or it will say it is connected but will not actually open any webpages. Sometimes, it will connect for an hour or two and then just randomly drop the entire connection.

I got permission to use my neighbor's wireless connection rather than my own and it worked perfectly for a couple of months. Then, the same thing happened - I either couldn't connect at all or I would be connected without the ability to surf. However, I can still connect to random wireless networks at hotels, libraries, coffee shops, etc...

I have tried reinstalling our router, but that didn't help. I have monkeyed with all of my firewall settings and internet settings and nothing seems to help! Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this fluke?

It is either your internet connection, your modem or your router. It is possible that you could be connected to your router but the internet coming into it is bad. Squirrels like to chew on the coating of coax and this will screw up your internet if that is your source as moisture then gets inside the cable.

If you get good internet access away from the house I would say it isn't the PC. Have you tried connecting to the router via a network cable to eliminate it being a wireless issue? If the same problem occurs connected via the cable it is definitely one of the issues above. From there you can connect to the modem directly via network cable and see if the same problem occurs. That should resolve it.
