Hi All,

I am working as a Network Administrator in a Company. I got this job recently, here i have to manage Cisco Switches 2960 and 4500 Series, Active Directory, Database Server, Exchange Server, File Servers, IP Telophony, Fortigate Firewall, 2960 Router, Wifi availability within Company.

Although, in case of any disaster we will contact to vendor for solution, but the management told me to deploy any Software/Network Monitor which will help me to manage all this, i.e, overall network Health check, Performance Measurement, Fault Tolerance.

Any help will be highly appreciated

I'm not sure there are tools out there that will monitor network connections as well as software. I'm not even sure what one would monitor with regard to software to be honest.

We use Cacti for monitoring the network. We monitor potential choke points to see if we're overwhelming available bandwidth on said choke points.

There are many other tools out there so you might want to actually go to and do a search on something like: "network monitoring tools" and do a little reading and research.

Microsoft has plenty of tools available for dealing with Active Directory. Again, google is your friend so don't be shy about using it.

It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate;
I am the captain of my soul.

The 2 primary tools that we use are Cacti and Nagios. Nagios can monitor applications/services
