Help! My husband's computer got the Sasser virus and now he can't connect to the internet. I have tried the following:

Deleted the Sasser virus through trendmicro.com

Ran norton fix tool - virus not found

redid the network settings, protocols, etc.

Cleaned these 4 files: inetadpt.dll, mswsock [TCP/IP], Winrnr.dll [NTDS]?, rsvpsp.dll

called my ISP and he got me to try:

netsh int ip reset.txt (or something like that)

uninstalled/reinstalled network card

re-setup windows (not reformated)

I cannot get to my computer on the network (yet I see it)

network address: not present

I'd appreciate any help with this! Thanks!

Thank you so much svg for your recommendation on installing

WinSockFix.zip (RefBy Tufenuf)

It did the trick! He did get ALL windows updates and he still got the virus. We are getting a router ASAP!

Thanks again!

You will need more than a router to help with virus'. Get a good AV prog, update like crazy, i check for updates every couple of days.

If you haven't installed tMS security update 835732 you are susceptible to the Sasser virus. Sometimes even if Windows Update *thinks* you're updated, you're really not. I'd go check out the security bulletin http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp and make sure.
