I have a laptop here that has no Admin rights, thus TCP/IP properties are locked down.
Does this prevent the laptop from obtaining an IP address from a DHCP server?

if you want to see if your machine if your machine is on DHCP, shut down the computer, and pull the network cable out of it, start the computer back up with the network cable unplugged and log into it with the account Go to Start>Run> type in 'cmd' (without the "'"'s) and type in ipconfig, you should get sometype of address that starts with 169.x.x.x if you get that IP then your network card is setup to receive ip via DHCP, if you get a different address like 192.x.x.x or 10.x.x.x for ex. then you have a static ip set it and you need to log in as administrator to change that after you are finished make sure to plug the network cable back in

If your laptop is set to DHCP, then not having admin rights won't cause any problems as it will get an IP address from your DHCP server providing it can contact it.
