My home P2P network (Windows Xp to Windows Xp) only seems to want to work with the NetBeui protocol there.

Preferably id like not to use this and just use TCP/IP, but the computers dont seem to be able to talk to each other. They can tell when theyre connected, they just cant see each other in thier workgroup (named: Home)

I have IPs as:
192.168.0.18 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Name Patch01b
192.168.0.16 Subnet 255.255.255.0 Name Cows01a
Both have the their default gateways as each other.

I dont have any DNS or WINS set up, and ive also played around with LMHOSTS and stuff. Any suggestions?

Dats not a TCP/IP problem...dats a Bill Gates problem.

The only name convention that Windows uses is NetBeui. You can use NetBeui over TCP/IP, but if you use TCP/IP ONLY you will NOT be able to see computers nor printers in Workgroups.

You are confussing DNS. DNS is a naming convention used for WAN (that is Wide Area Networks such as the Internet), to give names to IP addresses. However, in a LAN (Local Area Network such as your home), Windows uses NetBeui (or NetBIOS).
