Hi everyone,
When I start my pc now Norton pops up saying "TCP/IP is not installed. Disable email scanning in your Symantec product options or install TCP/IP."
I can't connect to the internet with my DSL and I also can't open up Windows Firewall. I don't use it, but when I try to open it it says that it can't open and gives me a Error 10050: Network Connection is Dead is dead or something like that.
I tried netsh winsock reset, but that didn't work. I tried starting Windows Firewall from Services, but that doesn't work. I tried deleting winsock in regedit and reinstalling TCP/IP, but that doesn't work. I tried allowing my Norton Firewall to allow echo and echo reply as well, but no luck.
Can someone help me with this problem please?

was networking working before you installed Norton?
Give a person a fish you feed them for a day.
Ask a person to internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

Norton was on my pc already a long time before this happened and my networking was working just fine. All of a sudden I restart my pc and this happens.

I also found out that it says that my computer has lost the lease to it's ip address, and that also the DHCP is using a totally different ip address.

I went into Services and tried to start the DHCP Client because it weas turned off, but the setting was on Automatic, and it says, "Error 1075: The dependancy service does not exist or has been marked for deletion."

I followed a how to on Microsoft to delete the dependency service that doesn't exist in the registry (HK\Local Machine\System\Current Control Set\Dhcp\DependOnService, but my network says no or limited connectivity.
The service was Afd.

Might consider using a live cd like knoppix or dsl or puppy. While I suspect it is your xp install I would prove it by using an alternate OS first. Tbere is a steep learning curve too with live linux cd's. Knoppix is very good at finding and using the correct hardware if dhcp and dns is provided.
If another OS works then go back to the windows and consider system restore, system repair, system re-install.
Might be a malware issue, might be xp issue, might be hardware issue. You will have to prove something right or wrong.
Be sure to look at event viewer logs for clues too.
