I never use standby. I never understood it's purpose unless it's to save a few pennies. I would disable it.

Standby is useless and tends to cause more problems than anything else.

Open Power Options (located in Control Panel) and on the "Power Schemes" tab disable System Standby. Then use the "Turn off Monitor" and "Turn off hard disks" settings to control power usage. I set the "Turn off Monitor" to 5 minutes and my hard drive to 2 hours.

These work without fail (unlike standby which regularly locks PC's up forcing one to do a hard reboot), save energy and also, blank the screen making a screen saver moot as well.

I am the captain of my soul.
