I am trying to link for xbox consoles for a party, via ethernet. I have the xbox's games etc. I know I need ethernet cables for each xbox, but do I connect them to a hub, switch or router. This would be the only use for it, I would not be connecting it to a pc, I would want all the xbox's to be recieving all the information. I would also be gratefull if you could tell me if it is just a case of plugging them all in or do I have to fiddle with ip addresses. Many thanks
Tom

I think that you just have to connect them to the router so they all receiv information make sure that the router is plugged in.
Mess with the best, die like the rest!!!!

They all need IP addresses, so using a router would be the easiest approach because SOHO routers have DHCP servers built in. As long as the XBox's are configured to get their IP's automagically, you're good to go.

All you need is an ethernet switch, with at least 4 ports, and stright-through cables from each xbox to the switch

Straight-through*
The system link cables that you buy to link 1 xbox directly to another are 'crossover-cables' and will not work from an xbox to a switch.
however they should work from an xbox to a router.
Straight-through cables are not expensive, and using a switch dosent require any configuration, just plug each xbox in and play.

I've always set them up with IP addresses or DHCP. Do they support APIPA?
