Hi, this is my first post here, but I have been visiting this forum quite often to pick up tips and tricks.
This is my problem:
My roommate and I (Both Win2000 pro) were hooked up on a network sharing a Cable Modem connection. Everything was fine we could see each other on the network, and the internet was great.
I recently purchased a 5 port switch, and basically just switched the Hub for the switch. Now, we still have access to the internet (Actually quite a bit faster -> No collisions) but the network is gone.
Im a little weak on networking, so could anyone give me a hand? Up till now, we have just left it saying obtain IP automatically, Id imagine we would have to change that.
Any help would be great!
Thanks,
Chris.

Switch ahould work fine for peer to peer. Check both machines IP address, subnet mask and default gateway.
Start > Run > CMD
C:\>IPConfig /all
Try to ping machine 1 from machine 2 and vice versa.
for example, from machine 1
C:\>ping "machine 2's IP address"Yo should get replies.
Report back your findings to us.
Cheers!

I agree. Changing the hub for a switch
would not cause the problems you are
seeing. IP address info would be helpful
and anything else you might have
changed.

Thanks for your help... The problem is solved... Uninstalled Zonealarm on roomates PC, and network showed up immediately... Wonder what happened to Zonealarm?
