Switch not give PING reply

I have 6 computer connecting with bay-lan 8 port switch. Some times the computer does't communicate with each other so i reset(Turn off the Switch Power and on it again) the switch and then it works fine.
Please tell me that why does't this thing occure.
I see the same thing with CISCO switches. Though the Uplink light is green but if we try to ping that switch from a remote computer it says "Request time out".Just unplug the uplink cable and insert it in the port .The remote computer can ping the switch. So what is the reson behind it.

Failing switch or problem with the IOS. Might want to see if there is a update

You have some kind of problem on the lan causing this , never have a seen cisco that goes dead to ping without a corresponding problem on the lan that maybe tieing the switch processor up.

Go to the switch either command line or via http server and see what the setting is for that/those ports and other diag notes/info.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.
