My linksys router just stopped working after working without a hitch for about a year. All the LCDs are the same color except for the "Diag" light, it now blinks red. Im new at this and would greatly appeciate help as to avoid paying a couple hundred to pay someone to come fix this for me.

Try shutting down all your computers. On the front of the router is a small hole. Use a paper clip and gently push in and hold the recessed button for 10 seconds.
The Diag light should blink and after a few seonds return to green.
If that fails, unplug the router for at least two minutes and then plug it back in. And here's a trick.
When you unplug the router, unplug the power cord from the back of the router, not just from the wall. Leaving the plug in the back of the router, even with no power on it, can keep the router from resetting itself.
See if this works and post back if you can.

I tried doing those things and throughout the reset process the diag light just kept blinking. Im thinking my router just went bad or something. I heard that its possible for a router to delete its configuration file on the computer, or something to that effect. If you have any more ideas Id be very interested to know, if not thanks for all your help Larry.

Dustin,
Gotta tell ya, if that light is blinking, there is a good chance the router is bad. If it's supplied by your ISP you may be able to get a another one for free.

At the office we have a small network with a Linksys router and a cable connection for the internet..During a thunderstorm the cable modem and the router got zapped. Fried!! The cable must have been struck outside the building and got to the modem and router by coming down the cable.I didn't know that could happen. We have real good surge protectors so the power supply wasn't it. Anyway, I've learned to unplug the modem when there is a thunderstorm..I dont know if that happened to you but it could happen to anyone..I was just throwing in some advice for anyone..Take the advice of the other posts but your router could have gone bad. Sorry.
