This one has me stumped. I have a home network, with a Motorola cable
modem, a Belkin Pre-N router, three computers attached via LAN cable, two
attached via wireless. Tonight, one of the computers attached with LAN
cable suddenly, in the middle of Internet use, started flashing message that
cable was unplugged. Lost connectivity. All other computers, LAN and
wireless, were and remain OK. Problem machine continued to show message re
cable. Unplugged and plugged cable from both ends. Swapped cable for one
that was working on other machine. Then control panel network connection
says its connected, says the LAN connection (on board an Epox mobo) is
working. But it isn't--start browser, no Internet. I have cycled modem,
cycled router, swapped cable plugs on the router. Uninstalled and
reinstalled driver for LAN connector (nVidia nForce) on mobo. Still
nothing.I can't figure this one out. All I can think of is that one of the other
machines on the LAN got a Trojan a couple of days ago; that machine has been
wiped and WinXP reinstalled--could that have anything to do with messing up
the LAN connection? Making Windows think its working when it isn't?All I can think to do is to go out and buy a NIC card, and disable the
onboard LAN--think that will solve it? But it tees me off to suddenly and
without explanation lose this connection. Help! Thanks, folks.

Kinda sounds like a loose conection on the cable or the port, try switching out both amd see what happens.....
Keep the old stuff running
