Specs: N/A
I have a network using 10.1.0.1-10.1.31.254/19 i would like to change this network to 10.1.0.1-10.1.31.254/24 to eliminate host traffic (have about 800 hosts right now on same subnet 255.255.224.0. how do i get all my hosts to communicate once there changed to /24 amongst my switching network. Right now its just a large supernet. any help would be appreciated. switches are layer2 what should their ip scheme be to allow communication amongst subnets. example workstation 1 10.1.8.80 sub 255.255.255.0 gate 10.1.8.254 communicate with workstation 2 10.1.7.80 sub 255.255.255.0 gateway10.1.7.254. and both devices need to communicate with server 10.1.1.10 subnet 255.255.224.0 gateway10.1.1.1

Do these layer two switches support vlans?

THAT is the route you want to take is use vlans and not renumber your ip plan.

Otherwise plan on getting routers to route between the new subnets.

Answers are only as good as the information you provide.

yes that was my plan, to implement the new ip scheme amongst buildings etc and create vlans and trunk all links between switches to include the vlans created. So i should just keep all devices as 255.255.224.0 subnet. Whats should i be setting my switches ip address to. For now i have been using 10.1.7.1-10.1.7.x or 10.1.1.1-10.1.1.x 255.255.224.0
