This is driving me insane. I'm usually pretty good at diagnosing this kind of stuff. This one is escaping me.

Here's the ordeal: Everytime I visit a page that has any kind of streaming media, mainly video, my internet connection DROPS OUT. It's really iritating lately, for when I visit someone's MySpace page with video embeded, it craps out (every time).

When this happens, neither me nor my other roommate can access anything. I can't even ping the router. I have to get up and manually re-set the router and it works fine again.

It has to be a "ports" issue. While googling, I ran across a similar situation that stated I should set the MTU on my router from "disabled" to 1492...and that didn't work. Should there be any other ports I need to open up? I'm running WM 10 (even after a format/clean install of XP...I still get this problem...so I'm thinking it's at the router level).

My router is the LinkSys Wireless B BEFW11S4 (ver 4 firmware - LATEST).

Any suggestions!? Thanks a million!

I've had the the exact same problem as you. I'm hoping it was a defective router and not a defect in the whole batch, as I just completed a RMA request and am waiting on Linksys to send me a new router as a replacement. They have a hold on my credit card for $64 in case I don't return the 'defective' one once they send the replacement. Oh, also, they won't pay shipping to send the defect back to them. They make you do that. All this for a router that cost $4 after rebate from Staples. I just hope I'm not going to be learning the hard way why they had such a 'good deal' on these routers. Nice off Linksys to let us know if there is a known problem with this model.... don't you think?

Let me just add a quick note to my previous post. If you do plan on calling Linksys to see about getting an RMA number to have your router replaced, plan on being on the phone for about 2 hours (30-45 minutes with each 'tier 1' customer service rep. having you mindless go through router setup screen to setup screen, all of which have nothing to do with the problem. Telling them that you know exactly what's wrong will do you no good until you get to the 'Senior Tech' which is another 30 minute call. They will verify that your problem is RMA-able and will validate your case number to be accepted into Linksys' online RMA system where you can fork over a hold on your credit card for whatever they decide your router is worth (in my case $65 for something I paid $4 for), and then embark on a fun up to 10 business day wait to get your new router, hopefully without the same problem as the one you sent back. Either way, you'll be paying the $10 or so to ship the defective one back to Linksys (according to the terms I had to agree to before I was allowed to finish submiting my RMA). Thanks for just quadrupling the price of my purchase, Linksys! StangMan-- I am sorry you are in the same boat. I'll let you know if the new unit I receive still has the same issue. The MySpace videos did it for me a lot too... (any streaming videos, actually... complete lock-up)
