Strange MAC addresses

I have been watching MAC addresses on the network and have found a number of them that start with 12. All of the MAC addresses I have seen start with 00. What could be causing this? Maybe VMWare or some other software? Thanks!

I have not used VMWare, but a MAC address is a hardware address, and I am pretty sure the only thing that can change a MAC address is a router or a managed switch. Of course I could be wrong. Why don't you just use the Ips and computer names to track down the computers in question? Just because all the MACs on the network right now start with 00 doesnt mean they all have to. Maybe someone replaced a few NICs, or added a few computers from a different vendor.
