I have a strange problem where I have a whole tone of files hosted on windows server 2003 and then I have another folder that is shared off the server and has shortcuts to all the files such as 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 & 2008.
So the client machines accesses a shared folder on the server with all those shortcuts, then the shortcuts will open another shared folder on the server. Each folder will then list a whole lot of other folders related to jobs n such. Now the problem is 80% of people in the office when they go to open one of the sub folders in the shortcut it opens,, but it doesn’t… I’ll explain further. They double click on the folder, the file explorer window address changes from say//server/Shortcuts/2008
to
//server/Shortcuts/2008/Job1
But the folder directory and files listed is still from the //server/Shortcuts/2008 then if they go to the address bar and just hit enter it will then open the //server/Shortcuts/2008/Job1 files and folders.
So this makes it very frustrating to open the folders and it’s not possible to save files directly to the folder, just to open it using the method previously mentioned then to drag the new files in to it.
Client machines are both Vista and XP,, and this is only happening to 4/6 computers in the office.
Anyone have any idea? I can explain further if needed

Your setup is confusing in your usage of the word "shortcuts"
Assuming \\server\shortcuts only contains a listing of shortcuts and you get this result://server/Shortcuts/2008/Job1 when clicking on one of them then your shortcuts are incorrectly made.
BTW its \\ not //
recommended setup would be
\\server\shared folders\2008
\\server\shared folders\2007
\\server\shared folders\2006, etcYou would share \\server\shared folders
You could have under \\server\shared folders a folder called shortcuts which would look like this
\\server\shared folders\shortcutsYou would have a shortcut for each yearly folder. By clicking on the 2008 shortcut you would go to \\server\shared folders\2008
By clicking on 2008 you would get a listing of all files and folder.
Your 4 out of 6 not working would mean two are working which points at rights assignments not being right.
