I am employeed by a property management company and assist with network issues at various properties. The properties are all managed by a central franchise company (hotel franchise), and the main router is maintained by them since they provide support. With that said here's the problems I've been having at multiple different locations:
1) Computer A and property A had "limited connectivity" - changed ethernet cord/etc. and verified it was working with another computer. Uninstalled ethernet driver/reinstalled (no good). Restored windows XP point (no good). Restarted multiple times to no avail... Very pissed at this point so went home.
---- NEXT DAY USER USED COMPUTER AND IT WAS WORKING FINE!! [maybe some weird issue with main router?]Computer B at property B-
computer with WIRED 10/100 ethernet stopped working and did as described above. Tried all steps mentioned above (also tried ipconfig /flushdns). Set static IP the next day and got computer working. Set it back to automatically detect and it stopped working so set it back to static. That was a week ago (it wasn't working for 2 weeks or so). Then today I set it back to automatically detect IP and it worked!! I was trying to show a colleague it wasn't working when it was set to Automatically detect and when it started working my mouth dropped open.LAPTOP C and property B
Guest was trying to connect to wireless network. Stated laptop was working the night before fine. We tried to have him hard wired but was having similar problems "limited connection" issue. I tried to put another PCMCIA card into his computer (a zyxel) but it froze his computer. His PCMCIA wireless card was a linksys SRX card. Tried everything from disabling/re-enabling, checked services.msc to verify WZCFG was running.
Tried to set STATIC IP and the wireless connection showed "CONNECTED" but still could not get onto the internet. Tried to set linksys card's mode to B only, G only, then back to all/mixed. My laptop and another colleagues laptop worked. I also tried to start in safe mode but same issues and the laptop also froze when I inserted the Zyxel card. Left with my brain hurting and wondering what the problem could be.Do these problems seem like they have a common cause? Is there anything I can suggest/request of the franchise main router operator?
Thanks,
Ryan

If you're so sure it's a router problem (I'm not convinced) why didn't you post some troubleshooting ideas to verify that it is and possible solutions?
How many devices (in total) connect to the internet/WAN via that router? Are all connected devices showing similar problems or is the problem isolated to a few? What type of router is it?

whenever you get the limited connection message, the chances are very high that its a router issue, as the machine in question is connected to the network but not been allowed to access the internet.
doing a repair is probably the safest and best thing to do, no point in messing with the computer connections and config as this will only serve to disguise the actual issue.
also its a good idea to power down the router and remove the power cord wait 1 minute and then power up again, as router often recieve auto updates and require a reboot before reconfiguring the software.
i hate computers!
but cant help myself....

"as router often recieve auto updates"
no they don't unless you are on a subscription service. I have yet to see a soho router with those options. My sonicwall has it but its not a soho router. If this did happen that would be a hackers dream.
"remove the power cord wait 1 minute"
there is absolutely no reason to ever do this. It accomplishes nothing. What you describe sounds like a problem with dhcp. Look at a pc that isn't getting on and see what ip address it has [if it has one], then ping the gateway and listed dns servers. see where ping fails. it will give you a clue to where the problem lies.
Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search

A little update here..
It's a nomadix router. I haven't looked at the model number yet since I've been busy with other tasks.I found out something funny today. I was running nmap to scan some IP's in the network, then poof the internet stopped working on the built in ethernet. I tried using the same cord on another machine and it worked fine. I can't really reset router since many guests are using it (peak usage time) and it's on the 3rd floor and i'm lazy again. I put in a PCMCIA card though and the wireless is working just fine on the machine.
Although I have physical access to the router, I do not have the password, etc. for it since our franchise does the tech support for this machine. I'm asking simply for curiosity and to find out what I can tell guests since the franchise tech support cannot help them.
