Comment: Strange & Aggravating Problem I have a very weird problem with my system. I have dial-up web access and can access some web services like HTTP and my POP e-mail but everything else fails to find the connection including FTP services. My FTP client doesn't even try to access the internet, and fails without trying to connect. I recently installed an ethernet card to connect my two PC's, it works great. I believe the services that aren't working are trying to access the LAN (My local computers) instead of using the internet. I have tried everything i can think of and would appreciate anyone's help right now. Thanks in advance!!

Reply: (edit)weird..under tools, internet options, connections, settings..you dont have anything like "dial only when a network connection is not present" checked, right? If its just your FTP client, check the connection settings..usually under "edit". Are there any OTHER applications that arent trying to access the net?

Reply: (edit)Believe it or not, my dial-up is set as the default connection. The setting for internet explorer is "Never dial a connection". Here's the low down... Some programs work fine and others fail. My web browser, e-mail, P2P and usenet software all work fine but things like FTP, any software with auto-update (winamp and P2P), and even my programming tools can't connect. It's a problem that's driving me nut's!

Reply: (edit)There's no firewall and i don't have ICS running or installed. The dial-up adapter is still bound to TCP/IP. See, i told you it was a weird problem :-) BTW, just for info, there are no special software programs running. No firewalls, proxy's, or even any server software. The systems as normal and unprotected ;-) as you can get.
