So you want to connect your 2 pc with a switch. Lets say your pcs are named pc1 and pc2. You will need 3 ethernet cable ( the size depends on how far your computers are apart

connect the first cable from your modem to the switch ( in the internet port)
connect the 2nd cable from the switch to pc1 (port 1)
connect the 3rd cable from the switch to pc2 (port 2)

fire up your PC and volla!!! if you need to share files you will have to create workgroup between the two pc.

Hi mloo
You dont have to name the two pcs to get the network working (once you setup the network, it will detect the names automatically)

if you still want to change the names, open up control panel from the start menu, select "system" and on the "Computer Name" tab click on "Change", there you can specify the name of the computer.

You can also use the Home Network wizard that will guide you to configure your network, it will provide you with the information you need to connect both your pcs to the internet.

To access the wizard, open control panel from the start menu, select " Network Setup Wizard"

hope that helps

hi mloo

( i posted a reply but it didnt get posted).. wierd.

You dont have to rename your pc to configure your switch ( the switch will automatically configure the newtwork to connect to the interent). But if you still want to rename your pc, you can do so by opening control panel from the start menu, open "system" and on the computer name tab, click "change".

You dont need to configure your modem to connect to both pcs, the modem just needs to be connected to the switch. and the two pcs to the switch

hope that helps, let me know how it goes :)
