hello, I am trying to set up networking on my laptop (win 2000). But not sure how to do it. Have gone into 'Make new connection wizard' As I am using a crossover cable I have chosen the option 'Accept incoming connections'.I then see a list of device connections,: Lt win modem, infrared port, infrared modem port, direct parallel (lpt1). None of them are ticked. Don't know which one to select. If anyone can please help or even a link to a step by step website. Thanks

You should tell us a bit more. What are you trying to do exactly?

Hello
Thanks for your replies
I want to transfer my document files from my windows 2000 laptop on to a windows xp home edition desktop computer so I can format the hard drive of the windows 2000. I don't have a cd writer on the laptop. I want to keep my files and they are too big for a floppy.
Thanks

You need to connect the computers via some means. If you have network adapters then you need to do two things to get this to work. One is to share one folder on a machine. The other is to share a folder or two.

Here is the ms how to. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308...

I've not seen a real good how to. Many use wizards that I can't ever understand or others make asumptions that are not needed.
