Hi Folks...

I am having a little problem with an IBM Thinkpad with WIndows XP & SP2 installed.

I have updated all drivers by the way..

I "AM" able to network successfully when the IP Seeting are set for "Obtain an IP address automatically" & "obtain DNS server address automatically".. BUT Once I enter static address with subnet mask, default gateway Etc.. it accepts the details, but when I come back in to make sure all is set OK, all static details have disappeared and I am left eith the automatic setting once again./??

Has anybode seen this and if so, what can I do to rememdy the situation.???

Regards

Julius

What router are you using? Can you give some more details about your setup?
Have you tried another PC on the network?

Sorry.. I forgot to mention about the other computers...

All other computers on the network are working as designed.. i.e. I can set a static address and the address stays in place even after reboots.!!

regards

Julius

may i ask you why you would like to assign a static ip address in tcp/ip properties if you can do that by binding your workstation's mac address to an ip address through your router configuration?

anyway back to your question, this problem can happen if you assigned an invalid or an ip address that has been taken by any of your workstations

Could this be a xp pro? Could a domain or local policy be doing this? Could it be a firewall or registry issue locking the settings? The remaining idea's involve bad programs or bad install. Driver issue is unlikely.

It should change right away and you should be able to go to a command line and use ipconfig to show address. (as admin)

Might be time for a clean install/ restore point??
