I live in China and my wife and I travel to different cities often. The hotels we stay at have no wireless internet but they do have an internet connection in the rooms. What do I need to do to split the wired connection so that we can hook the connection through our laptops? We both need to work on our computers while traveling and it is inconvenient to only have one internet connection at a time.

Probably just a switch or a hub. I'd personally vote for a switch, which can be found online for less than $20.

if they only provide one ip address per connection router is the way to go.

if they provide multiple ip addresses a switch is the way to go.

Personally I would take both

Wanderer - a router that configures to a switch/hub is all you need.
