Hi

I need some advice. I have a win2k network which is split with xp and 98 pcs which are not conencted to the NET and the reason for the splis is because the users are complaining os SLOW network speed. What i wish to achieve is to split these 2 groups into 2 network on 2 diff subnets ( i know how to subnet) so that the 98 pcs use dhcp and the xp use static. What i would like to know is the best way to achieve this . Will i need 2 NICS? All help appreciated

Simple enough, just don't assign a Gateway address to the clients you don't want accessing the internet.

Not connected to the internet and a slow network IS NOT SOLVED BY SUBNETTING unless you have 100's of them in one broadcast domain.

If you actually have a domain slowness can be due to a misconfigured W2k DNS server. what is the workstation dns entries in tcp/ip properties? Is it the w2k server?

Putting half as dhcp and half as static also has no impact on poor network performance.

Slow network is usually the result of improper network facilities planning.

What switches are you using? How many workstations? Describe your topology from pc to server. Post your server specs if doing client/server though I would guess from your OS's that you are doing peer to peer.

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
